iOS 5.1 Update now Available for iDevices

If you have an iDevice then you’ll have the chance to download the new iLife apps, including the iPhoto for iPhone and iPad, iMovie, iWork, GarageBand, and much more newly....
released apps but you first need to upgrade your device to the latest iOS 5.1. Apple has just public their newest iOS 5.1, which is now available for the iPad 2, iPad, iPhone 4S, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and second and third-generation iPod touch. In addition, Apple has also announced the new iPad along with a new Apple TV. Glad to say that all iPhone 4S users will have an improved battery life with this upgrade.

Are you going to Install it?
As we know the update won’t bring any problem for you, but as the update is still not showing up in iTunes, it is only available through OTA (Over The Air), so you should back up your device before upgrading to the newest. To update the iOS 5.1, you need to go through this; first go to Settings>> General>> Software Update>> click “Install” and now you done. Once you have installed then you can update or purchase the new iOS 5.1-enabled apps (mentioned above).
What are the key Updates?
If you have iOS 5.1 installed then your iDevice will get the Japanese language support for Siri, can delete photos from Photo Stream, addresses bugs affecting battery life, Genius Mixes and Genius playlists for iTunes Match subscribers, Audio for TV shows and movies on iPad optimized for being louder and clearer, get updated AT&T network indicator, improved camera app for iPad, now camera shortcut will always visible on lock screen for iPhone 4S, 4 and 3GS and iPod touch (4G), camera face detection will highlight all detected faces, Podcast controls for playback speed and a 30 second rewind iPad.
Do you know?
Here is good news for all iOS users that the update has been jailbroken and the iPhone Dev Team have confirmed this. They have just announced that, their Redsn0w jailbreak tool has been updated ahd allow the jailbreaking of iOS 5.1 devices, but certainly there are few cautions what you should take to play this safely.

iPhone 5 Probably have 4.6-inch Retina Display

We are miles away from the release of next Apple smartphone, but still we’re getting some juice rumors regarding the iPhone 5 in a regular interval. We just got news regarding....
the next iPhone from “Reuters” which is hard to believe. The international news agency is reported that, Apple Inc’s next iPhone will be coming with a sharper and bigger 4.6-inch “Retina” display and also quoted that it’s set to be released around the second quarter of this year, which is originally reported by a South Korean Maeil Business newspaper on Thursday.

Obviously it’s exciting to here news something like this regarding one of the most popular smartphone, but we can say it’s a pure rumor and sorry to say there are lot of doubts in my mind regarding it reality. Doubt in my mind because, a company as large and loyal as the one Apple can go for a drastic change like this. Can they switch its display size from a 3.5-inch to a 4.6-inch? Even more its major display suppliers LG Display and Samsung Electronics Co declined to comment.
But the reason behind we believe in it, Apple is also planning to change screen sizes for its tablets and laptops. In case you don’t know there was also news that, Apple is planning to release a smaller 7.85-inch iPad (current iPad have 9.7-inch screen) by the end of the year. Furthermore the company is also planning to release a 15-inch MacBook Air recently and wait also a 14-inch MacBook Air too (current MacBook Air have 11.6” & 13.3” screen). Well this is not the end, it also comes to know that they are preparing a notebook of that size to its line of super-slim computers.
It’s really surprise to hear, Apple will be releasing its next iPhone sometime in Q2 i.e. merely 9 months after the 4S announced. Even more the Holiday quarter release turned out to be very good for the iPhone 4S that scored record sales. But it seems quite impossible for a typical company like Apple, how they would kill their product within a very short of period by unveiling its successor in Q2.
It also comes to know that, the company is intent on creating a “nano-SIM” for the next iPhone. There are few other features comes around with rumor; it will support 4G LTE connectivity, powered by a quad-core A6 chip that expected to clock at around 1.2 to 1.5 GHz, it probably run on iOS v6.0, and more it also support NFC technology too.
If the rumor would true then the next iPhone will be a real headache for Samsung, which is currently turning out be a tough challenger to Apple in smartphones. They have lot of smartphone with 4.6-inch display e.g. its flagship Galaxy S II and they are also coming soon with its successor Galaxy S III. I’m really felling bad that I’m not pretty sure about the rumor regarding features, shape, size, technology and other about the iPhone 5. But you can feel free to share with me what you know about the next iPhone through the below comment option.

HTC Titan II (AT&T) Windows Phone smartphone review

Summary

The latest Windows Phone smartphone from HTC, the Titan II, is the successor to the HTC Titan that was released for AT&T just last November....
While the majority of the features on the Titan II are the same as its predecessor's, there are two key differences: a new 16 megapixel camera and support for AT&T's 4G LTE network.
The Titan II is a well put together phone, but its staid design pales in comparison to what is available from Nokia and its line of Windows Phone devices as well as what you can get on other platforms. The headline feature - that new 16 megapixel camera - is impressive, and is probably the best camera available on any Windows Phone smartphone, but I don't think that it is enough to make the Titan II stand out from the pack.
Read on to find out more about the HTC Titan II and see if it is a worthy option to consider when shopping for your next smartphone.

The fact that the video was published on Samsung’s official YouTube channel indicates that the update may be rolling out soon, but Samsung has not given any indication as to when in Q2 it will be released.
I’ve never been a fan of the Galaxy Note’s size, but my HTC Flyer and I are currently suffering from Premium Suite envy. What’s a ‘Computer Vision Specialist’ and Why Does Apple Need One?

When Apple posted a job listing Tuesday for a “Computer Vision specialist,” the tech-obsessed echo chamber began speculating which Apple product line would be....
employing this person’s expertise. Most intriguingly, the job posting made frequent reference to 3-D: “3-D geometry,” “3-D reconstruction” and “cameras and surfaces in a 3-D environment.”
So what exactly could Apple have up its sleeve? What is “computer vision” and how does it relate to 3-D?
The short answer: Apple could be delving into applications as familiar as simple 3-D video capture, to as arcane as real-time environment capture for an augmented-reality system.
“Computer vision is about enabling the computer or mobile device to make sense of a 3-D image the way humans do,” Forrester analyst Frank Gillett told Wired. “For this job application, Apple appears to be looking for someone who could help them think about how stereo cameras could look at a scene, and figure out how to do something useful for its owner.”

Gillett’s explanation suggests a much grander 3-D application than what we see in today’s mobile device. Currently, 3-D in the mobile space is defined by crappy stereoscopic cameras, and glasses-free 3-D displays with incredibly subtle — and sometimes imperceptible — 3-D spatial effects. Android smartphone manufacturers have shown off 3-D image- and video-capture in the LG Optimus 3-D Max and HTC EVO 3-D, but consumers haven’t warmed up to these simple implementations.
“3-D displays on smartphones today are nothing more than a gimmick,” Canalys analyst Pete Cunningham told Wired via email. “The lack of good content is a major challenge. There may be opportunities with 3-D gaming on tablets and smartphones in the future, but it is still a very niche segment.”
But looking toward the future, Apple could have the chops to turn consumer interest around.
Apple has been dabbling in the 3-D arts for quite some time, if patent filings are any indicator. One particularly interesting implementation is a 3-D display calibrated by eye positioning. It would provide subtle 3-D effects, like drop shadows that dynamically change depending on your position. Apple also won a patent for its own glasses-free 3-D display.
So what could Apple do with 3-D on an iPhone or iPad?
“I would expect that Apple is focusing entirely on 3-D environment capture — the idea that your iPhone could create a 3-D map out of the world around you with a simple swipe of the camera around your environment,” Forrester analyst James McQuivey told Wired. “It would create a meta view of the world. Who made the clothes that person is wearing? What architectural style is that pillar? All of that kind of information, if aggregated at the level of the operating system, could then be tapped into by many apps which would each then add value to the meta-view.”
Gillett said this would be useful for helping us quickly and intuitively understand information in a number of scenarios. For example, imagine you need to replace the wiper fluid in your car, and you’ve never done it before. You could use your smartphone camera to identify your car, and then receive a quick 3-D visual explanation of what to do — all with better spatial representation than 2D would provide.
Of course, Apple’s new computer vision specialist could work in other areas too.
“What it means, probably, is they want to render videos faster on things like video conference calls, or do refreshes without refreshing the whole screen,” Gartner analyst Ken Dulaney told Wired. Gillett said Apple may also want to tweak the rendering of an image, making it more understandable to the human eye, rather than just displaying it accurately.
Dr. Keith Price of the University of Southern California’s Computer Vision Laboratory thinks Apple could embark on something like Photosynth, a large-scale augmented reality product. Apple could also avoid the need for dual cameras by using a single camera and combining multiple images for a 3-D version.

Nokia Siemens to Cut 17K Jobs by 2013

That’s what many Nokia Siemens employees will hear while they prepare for winter vacation, as the Finnish-German mobile company announced plans to lay off 17,000 workers over the....
next two years, nearly one quarter of its workforce.
As the joint-venture of Nokia and Siemens, the mobile infrastructure-focused business has remained largely unprofitable since its inception in 2006, and has struggled to compete with mobile marketshare leader Ericsson AB. Nokia Siemens also faces stiff competition from Chinese competitors Huawei and ZTE, both of which create lower-cost products.
“As we look towards the prospect of an independent future, we need to take action now to improve our profitability and cash generation,” Nokia Siemens CEO Rajeev Suri said in a statement.
In a major acquisition which closed in April of this year, Nokia Siemens purchased the wireless infrastructure assets of the U.S.-based Motorola Solutions for $975 million. Nearly 7,000 new employees came with the deal, most likely prompting this latest round of layoffs.
The workforce reduction will trim approximately $1.35 billion in yearly operating expenses, according to Suri.
Nokia shareholders reveled at the news, as the stock jumped 2.3 percent in after-hours Helsinki trading. Siemens shares rose slightly by 0.6 percent on the Frankfurt exchange.
What’s good for the company, however, will most likely bring little comfort to the soon-to-be-former members of the workforce.

Sony Ericsson Live With Walkman Overview

Introduction:

Ladies and gentlemen, introducing the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman! Yes, we now have another Android smartphone that carries the legendary brand name, the first one being the....
Sony Ericsson W8 Walkman. However, while the W8 was more or less a clone of the Sony Ericsson X8, the Live with Walkman is an entirely new device. It offers some decent specs as well, namely a 1GHz processor, 3.2-inch display, and both a rear and front-facing camera, which puts is right in the mid-range category of smartphones. But is it any good? Let us take it for a spin and find out...

The package contains:
  • Wired headset
  • Wall charger
  • microUSB cable
  • 2GB microSD card
  • Warranty and a getting started guide

Design:

First of all, kudos to Sony Ericsson for designing a smartphone that does not have the boring-slab-o-plastic appearance. Yes, plastic may be what it is made out of, yet still, we quite like the Live's fresh looks and colorful accents, and we believe that the youngerly crowd will do so too. A very practical addition is the dedicated Walkman key, located on the device's top side, which acts as a shortcut to the Walkman music player app.

The handset's design has more than a few imperfections, some of which less tolerable than others. To start, when using it with a single hand, the buttons on its top are somewhat difficult to operate, especially when there is a pair of headphones plugged in. Speaking of buttons,  the dedicated camera key is really tricky to use. Technically, it is a 2-stage shutter button, but the lack of feedback makes it very hard figuring out whether it has been pushed half-way, all the way down, or not pressed at all. Another flaw is that its front and back sides are prone to collecting finger smudge.

Display:

The front of the Sony Ericsson Live with Walkman is occupied by a bland-looking 3.2-inch display with a resolution of 320 by 480 pixels. Punching these numbers in a PPI calculator gives us the figure of 180 pixels per inch, which is not bad, but nothing impressive either. Its color reproduction leans a bit towards the warm side, while its contrast levels and viewing angles are average at best. Another problem that we notice is that its pixel response time is rather high, meaning that moving objects leave a faint blurry trail behind them. At least the display's brightness output is high enough to make using the smartphone on a sunny day comfortable.
