Halloween Ideas Perfect For Your Little Ghosts And Goblins

The construction paper jack-o-lantern is a very straight-forward craft that requires a bit more preparation on your part as far as getting pieces ready. If you trust your toddler to use a safety scissors you could go that route.
Materials:
*Orange construction paper.
(cut into circle shape beforehand)
*Yellow construction paper
(cut into various shapes like triangles, squares, rectangles beforehand)
*Glue stick
Procedure:
The procedure for this craft is very simple. Just let your toddler create whatever sort of faces they like using the yellow shapes you cut for them. They can glue on different shaped eyes, nose, and mouth to their jack-o-lantern. Then, you can use sticky tap to hang them on display.
- Lollipop Ghosts
Lollipop ghosts are very easy to make, and don't have many pieces that you need to prep ahead of time.
Materials:
*One bag of suckers, such as Dum-Dums or Blo-Pops.
*Square sheets of white fabric (about 5" x 5") You will need one square of fabric for each ghost you want to make.
*Thin rubber bands, white ribbon, or string.
*Black marker
Procedure:
Place a lollipop in the center of a white square of fabric, and pull the edges down so that it looks like the lollipop is the head of the ghost. Secure the white square by tying a bit of ribbon or string around the ghost's "neck," or use a thin rubber band (you may have to wrap it more than once.) I like the look of string the best, but rubber bands are probably easiest for toddlers.
Next, use the black marker to draw a face on your ghost. After you demonstrate one for your child, let them make as many of their own as they want. Once they get the hang of it they can easily complete many ghosts on their own.

Halloween Decoration Easy And Quick To Do

Here comes the 'Spooky Bouquet' to the rescue! For one bouquet you'll need:
- four high quality 11" latex balloons, preferably with Halloween design, but if you can't get those, three plain black and one plain orange balloon will do as well,
- color matching curling ribbon (5mm wide),
- a plastic or ceramic pumpkin for the base (or any other small item that fits the theme and to which you can attach the ribbons) and
- a small flask of helium to fill the balloons.
How to make it?
You start with inflating the first of your black balloons with helium. Before you tie the knot you should make sure that the balloon is fully inflated to its 11" size. This is important as the bouquet will only look good if all balloons are blown up to the same size. There are two easy ways to do this: you could make yourself a simple 'balloon sizer' by cutting a circle of 11" diameter out of a piece of cardboard or you could set up two chairs back to back, so that the distance between them equals 11".
So, before you knot the balloon, pass it through your sizer and if necessary, deflate or inflate the balloon until it fits. Now take about 1m length from your curling ribbon and tie it to the balloon neck, leaving ca. 30cm loose for curling. Then attach the other end of the ribbon to your base. The overall height from the base to the top of the balloon should be about 80cm.
Repeat these steps for the other two black balloons. Position all three balloons at the same height.
O.k., just one more step to finish your Spooky Bouquet. Take the last balloon, in our example that would be the orange balloon, inflate it as described above and attach it to the base, so that it floats in the center of the three black balloons and just above them. You found the perfect position, when the top balloon just slightly touches the three black balloons.
Congratulations. You're done! Now stand back and admire your floating bouquet. There are so many Halloween themed balloons, both latex and foil, that you can easily create variations of this basic design. For example, you'll get a nice effect, if you replace the top latex balloon with a foil balloon - it could be a crazy pumpkin, a flying witch or a ghastly ghost ... whatever you prefer.
One special tip: as this is a last minute decoration idea, it might be too late to order a helium tank from a specialised balloon supplier. Maybe you know a small corner shop in your neighborhood that sells balloons. They probably have helium too. If it's not for sale, ask them to inflate your balloons on the spot and take the inflated balloons home with you.

Fitting A Wall Extractor Fan Simple Process And Easy Steps

The first step is to make a decision where you want to place the extractor fan. Make sure that the outside position has plenty of ventilation and is not too close to the neighbors as you do not want to transfer fumes into their house, also make sure that the outside area is free from obstructions such as rain pipes or soil. Then make sure there are no buried pipes or cables using a cable finder. If you do find any you will need to shift your position slightly so as not to obstruct with them.
2) Drilling the hole
Carefully mark the position on the wall where the extractor fan will be placed ensuring you mark the outside edges or diameter. Check the manufacturer’s instructions to make sure you fulfill with their necessities. Once you have marked, use an electric drill to drill a hole all the way through the centre of the location angling your drill slightly downwards. Then mark the outside position of the extractor fan on the wall with the hole as a guide again using the electric drill to do so. Use a big chisel to remove the waste and a smaller chisel to smooth the hole.
3) Fitting the extractor fan
If you want to hide the cables and conduit, use a small hammer and chisel to cut grooves in the plaster work so they can be buried. On the other hand, you may cover them with plastic conduit which avoids having to re-plaster and decorate. Fit the fan onto the wall as well as the outside grille cover.
4) Connecting the fan
You will require connecting the fan to the electricity supply with some basic wiring so if you are not sure doing this you may need to get an experienced electrician for this part of the work.

Need To Know Is How To Build Solar Panels

The best thing of all is that building solar panels isn't difficult as it sounds! As with all new things we will need some time to be familiarized with the process, but using the right tools and references (internet resources, guidebooks, DIY magazines and articles) we can be taught this in a very short time period.
What should we learn to at the very beginning?
In my opinion, the most important thing is to find a good resource to start our research. If you have zero or very little knowledge about how to build solar panels, but you still have the desire to build them because you are fed up with paying money for the energy when you can have it for free, then you should start by browsing the internet and doing the research on solar power. The fact that you're reading this article means that you're doing the research part right.
The next step is obtaining a good quality manual on solar panels. This is the most important step you have to take. This manual will take you by the hand and guide you step-by-step on your way to sun-powering your house and getting off the grid. Don't be rushed about choosing the correct manual. I would recommend that you focus to the following features that a good manual should have:
Straightforward and easy to follow instructions
lots of pictures and/or video clips that explain every step in more detail
 affordable
 downloadable
With these two main steps under your belt you can start preparing for the magic of DIY to kick in. Get the tools prepared

Easier Way To Grow And Enjoy Fresh Vegetables In Containers

Many vegetables lend themselves well to any container. With a certain thought to choose varieties of bush or dwarf, almost any vegetable can be adapted to grow in a pot. The vegetables which take little space, such as carrots, radishes and lettuce, or crops that bear fruits over a long period of time, such as tomatoes and peppers, are great for container.
You can follow work instructions below to grow your own vegetables in container:
1) Prepare several suitable containers, garden soil, garden tools, vegetable seeds or starter plants and suitable place.
2) If the containers have no holes, drill some drainage holes through the bottom. Place your containers in locations according to sun exposure; follow seed packet instructions; and convenience to water source.
3) Fill containers to appropriate levels with soil. Plant seeds according to the seed and/or starter plants packet instructions.
4) Water on a daily basis, or as needed.
5) Remove any weeds in your containers.
6) Some plants such as potatoes need to add and mound soil around the plants occasionally.
7) Harvest when your vegetables in container ripen.
Before you start to plant your vegetables in container, there are 5 main considerations to know:
1. Light exposure.
Choose vegetable plants according to how much sun or shade they’ll obtain everyday. Leafy vegetables, such as carrots, lettuce, spinach and onions are all right in partial shade. But plants that bear fruit such as tomatoes, eggplant, squash and peppers need full sun light at least 6 hours per day.
2. Type of container.
Any container is suitable for vegetable plants as long as it has good drainage. Leafy vegetable and herbs do not need as much space, but use a pot at least 9 inches deep so you don’t have to water frequently. Vegetables with extensive root systems such as potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes and squash need containers with a minimum depth of 16 inches. Remember, the bigger the pot, the bigger the yield. An additional 2 inches deep can more than double your harvest.
Small containers usually dry out very fast in summer. The smallest size of container for outdoor use is around 8 to 12 inches in diameter which is ideal to use in shade part.
Midsummer heat can fry tiny, hair like feeder roots. Without these feeder roots, the plant will die even if the soil is wet. Then larger roots become very weak to root rot fungus that can raze the rest of the plant. Overheat soil is a common cause of failure in container plantings. Thick wood and dark colored containers will take up more heat, while light colored containers reflect heat.
If you are using recycled containers, clean them very well with brush and wash in a solution of 9 parts water to one part bleach. If containers are porous, soak them well in water before filling so they won’t act like sponges and pull all the water out of your soil.
3. Preparation of the soil.
Purchase a high quality mixture soil that is sterilized, and able to absorb moisture and drain fast. Never use garden soil. It may have fungi and diseases and is usually very heavy and slow to drain.
4. Fertilize
Plants grow in containers cannot search nutrients with their roots. Confined root systems demand frequent light fertilizing in summer. Nutrients are leached from the soil with watering and require to be replenished regularly. Two to four weeks after planting, start applying a water soluble fertilizer mixed half strength. Apply fertilizer every two to three weeks continuously except you add a slow release fertilizer to the soil.

The Extraction Of The Teeth Affected With The Disease

The patient should begin the treatment with a short juice fast for three to five days. The juice of a fresh orange diluted with water on 50: 50 basis, should be taken at two-hourly intervals from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. during this period. If the orange juice does not agree, carrot juice may be taken. The bowels should be cleansed daily during this period with a warm water enema. If constipation is habitual, all steps should be taken for its eradication.
After the juice fast, the patient should spend a further three to five days on an exclusive fresh fruit diet. In this regimen, he should have three meals a day, at five-hourly intervals of fresh juicy fruits such as apples, pears, grapes, grape-fruit, oranges, pineapple and melon. If losing much weight on the all-fruit diet, those already under weight may add a glass of milk to each fruit meal.
Thereafter the patient may gradually embark upon a balanced diet, with emphasis on fresh fruits, green salads, whole meal bread, properly cooked vegetables, cheese, nuts, and milk. White bread, white sugar and all refined and tinned foods must be completely given up.

Diabetics Can Not Eat Food Carelessly Especially Those Related To Glucose

People with diabetes should eat foods with low glycemic index, which is below 55. This is to help prevent blood sugar to increase that will make diabetes worse.
Glycemic index (GI) is the scale or number given to certain foods based on how much these foods increase blood sugar levels, the scale used is 0-100. Glycemic index could be said low when they’re on a scale of less than 50, they are said medium if glycemic index is 50-70 and are said high if glycemic index is above 70.
Well, according to Livestrong, there are some fruits that are suitable for diabetics, here they are:-
1. Apple
Glycemic Edge reports that pectin, a compound that is found on the skin and flesh of apples, is effective to help treat diabetes. The compound help detoxify the body and reduce about 35 percent of insulin the body needs. Eating an apple that has a glycemic index of 40 can also help improve the regulation of blood sugar levels.
George Mateljan Foundation for the World’s Healthiest Foods, cited a research study published in the Journal of Medicinal Food September 2010 edition, shows that enzyme in apple affects carbohydrate digestion, which reduces the absorption of glucose in the digestive tract and stimulates the pancreas to produce more insulin. This condition will help you balance blood sugar levels.
2. Strawberries
Strawberries play a role in the diet of people suffering from diabetes. American Diabetes Association says that berries (including strawberries) are ’super foods’ because they have low glycemic index, which is 40 for 120 grams of strawberries.
Strawberries also contain lots of fiber, nutrients and antioxidants. Eating strawberries may help reduce the risk of heart disease, a serious risk for diabetics.
3. Grapefruits
Grapefruit has a glycemic index of 25 per 120 grams, it can help improve insulin sensitivity, which is an important feature because insulin helps to release sugar into the bloodstream and has a direct impact on blood sugar levels.
Grapefruit increases alkali reserve in the blood, which can resist the acidity of diabetes in people with diabetes.

Fish Are Known As A Healthy Food Because It Contains Nutrient Content

Besides that, fish are also free of bad fats. Recent studies shows that by regularly eating fish once or twice a week, people can reduce the risk of blindness due to decreased vision associated with age.
Omega-3 fatty acids which are most commonly found in oil fish like salmon and tuna can help prevent Age-Related Macular Degeneration (AMD), a condition that causes a gradual loss of vision with age.
AMD is caused by damage and death of cells in the macula, which is one part of the retina that is used to look straight ahead.
The disease which mainly occurs in people 40 years or more, decrease eyesight by creating a black spot in the center of vision that will slowly get bigger.
Researchers found that just one or two servings of fish a week can reduce the risk of visual impairment by 42 percent in elder women. These findings support previous studies that showed similar results in men.
The results showed that women who ate omega-3 fatty acids at most (which is found in fish) have a lower risk of AMD’s nearly two-fifths or about 38 percent than women who ate less omega-3 fatty acids.
Omega 3, which is commonly found in food are eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA), or also can be consumed in supplement form.
“In summary, prospective data from the population of women who are not diagnosed with AMD have shown that consumption of DHA, EPA and fish regularly can significantly reduce the risk of AMD incident,” said the study author, which study was published in the Archives of Ophthalmology journal.

Overweight Will Testify That Losing Weight Is Not As Easy As It Seems

The people that are lean, or have gone from fat to skinny will say it’s just a matter of motivation and elbow grease; though it is not as simple as that. Here are some quick simple tips to get ahead!
Substitute Water.
Our bodies are about 65-70% water. It follows that water would be not only essential, but the best possibly choice of liquids to ingest. In fact, our bodies will sometimes simulate a hunger response, when in reality the body is craving hydration. When hungry, drink a glass or two of water to check if it suppresses your hunger.
Chew Your Food.
Chewing our food very slowly and deliberately has several benefits that are often overlooked. It gives us the ability to relax, and enjoy our meal. Slow chewing is the first, and highly important, step in a complex system of digestion. Besides, if we eat slowly, we might feel full before finishing the whole meal, and can leave the rest for the next meal.
Exercise Daily.
Obviously for weight control, we have to include something like exercise. A 30 day trial with waking up, and walking for 30 minutes first thing in the morning. Keep a journal record and you’ll find it amazing during the period of time you are following this habit.
Publicize Your Intentions.
Start a blog, join a forum, drop us a wall message on Beauty Tips Network’s Fan Page and have other people keep you accountable to help. Tell other people your plan, it would help you get the motivation to go with it!
Create a Food Schedule.
Plan your day so that you’re eating at approximately the same time each day. This scheduling will incorporate itself into your circadian rhythm, and aid indigestion.
Don't Over Eat.
Know your limit and stop eating when you are full. I have often been a victim of wanting to finish a meal so that it doesn’t go to waste. This has left me with many a stomach ache. Next time, doggy bag it for later, and don’t hurt yourself!
Choose Your Snacks Wisely.
Put down the chips and cheese puffs. Pick up the apple and baby carrots. Make the right decision; you can do it.

Good Contact Lens Care Extend Life Contact Lenses Protect The Safety Health Of Your Eyes

Always wash your hands with warm water and soap before handling your contact lenses or before touching your eyes. Any residue from lotions, soaps, or chemicals may stick to the contact lens, causing pain, irritation, or blurred vision when they are in your eyes. Dry your hands with a clean towel.
2. Wear your contact lenses as prescribed. Your eye doctor will recommend a wearing schedule specific to the type of contact lens you have selected. Only wear your contact lenses for the time recommended.
3. Clean and store your contact lenses as prescribed (in a clean case in fresh solution). Different types of contact lenses require special care and certain types of products. Always use the eye care products recommended by your eye doctor. Some eye products or eye drops are not safe for contact lens wearers.
4. Clean your contact lens case after each use with either sterile solution or hot tap water and let air dry.
5. Never use plain water directly on your contact lenses, and never put your contact lenses in your mouth to “rinse” them. Microorganisms can live in even distilled water, causing infection or sight damage.
6. Clean your contact lens by rubbing it gently with your index finger in the palm of your hand. The newest “No Rub” solutions allow you to rinse your contact lenses without rubbing.
7. If you develop an eye infection (signs include redness, burning, or excessive tearing), remove your contact lenses and discontinue use until you talk with your eye doctor. Wearing a contaminated pair of contact lenses will invite the infection to remain. After resuming contact lens use, closely follow your doctor’s instructions to help prevent future eye infections.
8. Never wear another person’s contact lenses, especially if they have been worn before. Using other people’s contact lenses can spread any infection or particles from their eyes to yours.
9. Wearing contact lenses may cause your eyes to become more sensitive to sunlight. Wear sunglasses with total UV protection and/or a wide brim hat when in the sun.
10. To keep your eyes lubricated, use a rewetting solution or plain saline solution.
11. Do not sleep with your contact lenses in your eyes unless you are prescribed “Extended Wear” contacts! While the eyes are shut, tears cannot carry healthy amounts of oxygen to the eye, like during the waking hours. As a result, your contact lenses will become dry and stick to your eyes. If you accidentally do fall asleep with your contact lenses in, be sure to put eye drops in your eyes and wait a few minutes before trying to remove your contact lenses.

Places Where Set Up A Free Web Site Accessible To Anyone

Finding a free host service
The first step in building a free web site is finding a host service. The Internet has a lot of web site that offer free space for writers. It all depends on what you want to publish.
Blog platforms
If you intend to write a blog, that is, a web site that is frequently updated with new information, there are nowadays several host services that can provide you with space. Among the best well know of them are:
-Blogger: blogger is a web site maintained by Google. It offers an unlimited number of pages, so you don't need to worry about the available capacity for your site. Blogger is easy to use, and require a minimum of knowledge to have your blog working.
-Wordpress: If you are a little more experienced, a better choice could be the wordpress system, which you can access at wordpress.com. The advantage of wordpress is that they have a professional blogging platform, which can be later moved to a paid web site, if you decide. To master wordpress, however, you need to get involved with plugins, extensions, and even PHP, if you want to extend it.
-Typepad: Typepad.com is another popular choice for bloggers. You can open a free account wih them, and later on you can get a paid account, if you feel that this will improve your experience. Typepad is also based on a professional system, and you will have a lot of room for improvement.

Creating a Wiki
Another option if you want to have a free web page is creating a Wiki. A wiki is a web page that can be edited my more than one person, in collaboration.

Need To Look For A Laptop That Will Be Reliable

These are a set of tips that have worked for me and several other people when buying laptop computers. Although the number of options in the market is vast, there are a few things that, when you put the required attention, will result in an excellent buying choice.
Finding the best deal in computers is not always that easy. Many stores, specially when the holidays are approaching, put together deals that look promising at first sight, but that are really bad if you don't pay enough attention.
Getting a good computer comes up to select quality for the right price. Although saving money is important, it is not a matter of just saving in the store. You should look at the long term savings by your equipment. That is why it is important to look at some of the items below.
1. Be aware of the warranty
One of the most overlooked issues when buying a laptop is the warranty. In the excitement of the new toy you don't even care about this. However, when the laptop has a problem this can be a real headache.
Make sure that you get informed if the warranty for your equipment is good enough. Check with friends that had to use the customer services if the company is efficient. Finally, check if you need to buy an additional coverage package.
2. Choose a processor that is adequate but not too expensive
Processors are the engine of your laptop. If you get a fast one, you can run a lot of applications faster. That is why processor is such an important factor in choosing a laptop.
These days, however, speed is not the only indicator of capacity for a processor. Some processors are more efficient, even at lower speeds. Higher speeds also mean higher temperatures, which can be difficult to manage in a small laptop -- they can literally burn under the heat.
Many processors nowadays have a dual core, which means that they have a copy of itself available for similar work. This is great because different programs can use different processors, and therefore can run faster as a result. Dual cores are the ones with such capability, and quad-cores (with four processors) are coming to the market.
Intel has made available in the last year a lot of new processors that bring extra processing capacity for laptops. You can find these dual-core process in the new laptops from Dell, HP, and even Macs.
3. Find a laptop with enough room for growth
Laptops are different from desktop computers mainly in that it is difficult to expand its capacity. If your hard disk, for example, gets full after a few months, it is difficult to replace it with a bigger one. Especially if you find out that this is not allowed by the company.
You should always plan to buy a laptop that has features that allow it to grow without major headaches. For example, extra slots for memory extension, several ports for communication with external devices, replaceable drives, etc. This will certainly pay off when you need to improve your laptop in the future.
4. Do not be cheap with memory: you always need more
Memory is like money: you always need more. The general law of programming is that each program is made to use ALL memory available at any given time. And companies spend their time creating software that tries to eat even more memory, such as Windows Vista, Java programs, etc.
The good thing is that memory is cheap these days. So, make a good investment and buy enough memory to satisfy the hunger of your preferred applications.
5. Hark disk is essential
One feature that can make or kill your laptop is the hard disk. It is difficult to replace hard disks, and if your is too small it won't fit all the information you need.
Prefer hard disks with generous sizes, even if you have to pay a little more. It is good investment, because it will save you a lot of trouble when you try to install the new multi-Giga software or when you try to store the record you made of your children.

House Uses Timber In Its Construction Or Decoration

Initially the fungus appears as off-white felt-like or cotton-wool like sheets on brickwork and timber, and, in later stages, can develop fungal strands as thick as your finger. Where the fungus is exposed to light, it often has a lemon-yellowish tinge.
Damage is often confined to timber but large flat mushroom-like fruiting bodies can easily grow through finishes such as plaster or paint. These fruiting bodies may be the first visible sign of a problem, and they produce numerous spores which are normally brick-red in colour.
Entirely dry-rot decayed timber can be crumbled between your fingers. The fungus leaves deep cracks running across the grain, and there is often evidence of off-white sheets of the fungus on the wood.
Treatment:
The term dry-rot came from the belief that the fungus is able to transport moisture from a source many metres away, to attack dry wood. In fact, although the fungus can transport moisture over several metres, it cannot transport anywhere near enough moisture to attack wood that is otherwise dry.
Treating dry-rot can involve removal of the affected timber (including all timber for a metre beyond the visible signs of the fungus), and extensive chemical fungicide treatments for all adjacent timber and the brickwork of any contaminated walls and plaster. However, this approach is expensive and unnecessary.
The modern approach is to use environmental controls, such as isolation and ventilation, which ensure that the damp, unventilated conditions required by dry-rot do not occur. The techniques are simple ways to ensure that the timber in a property does not become damp enough for dry-rot to attack, for instance replacing dry-rot decayed joists with new timber using joist hangers, instead of building them back into the brickwork, or by using ventilated skirting board details to encourage ventilation of a floor void.
Replacement door frames should have a strip of damp-proof membrane around the outside, to fully isolate them from damp or potentially damp brickwork, so the timber would never become damp enough for dry-rot to 'eat'.
If you have dry rot, it is probably best to have the problem looked at, and corrective action taken by a reputable specialist firm, so that you have a guarantee if the problems were to return.

Modern Design Laminate Flooring How To Care For It

Laminate is a type of flooring that exists of different layers of material that all have different qualities. From top to bottom, in a typical laminate floor there are: a decorative surface (made of a resin-based melamine that is hard wearing), a wood-based core (which is the main component of a laminate floor), and a backing that is bonded to the underside of the core, which gives it its rigidity.
Laminate flooring comes in all sorts of designs, mainly copying wood patterns and is produced in rectangular plank shape. But recently new designs have been put on the market, imitating slate and tiled flooring. Therefore these laminates have a square shape, but will still have the same main features of laminate flooring, namely durability, ease of maintenance and ease of fitting.
Which flooring to choose?
There are different types of laminate flooring, but both of them work with the tongue-and-groove principle and both of them are 'floating systems', which means that the floor is not attached to the under-floor, but is resting on the under-floor. First of all, there are two methods of putting the floor together: with glue and without glue. Glued flooring is put together by putting a bead of glue between the tongue and the groove. Glueless flooring is a system by which the panels are clicked together and gets more and more popular every day, as it is quicker and cleaner than the glued system. It is also possible to 'unclick' the panels and take them with you when you move.
Laminate flooring comes in a lot of different qualities, thickness and water resistancy. Choose the best flooring you can afford and make sure the flooring you choose is appropriate for the room you're going to put it in. For example, you best use waterproof laminate flooring for the bathroom and the kitchen! Have a look around your local DIY stores, comparing qualities and prices to make sure you make the right choice.

How To Hang Wallpaper Tips For A Better Finish

How to get started
Draw a plumbline to ensure the wallpaper will hang straight. You can hang a weight from a piece of string to mark the plumbline. Measure the height of the wall, adding about 100mm. This will help you hang the wallpaper, and after hanging, you can trim the excess paper.
Cut the paper with a sharp knife, for example a trimming knife. Now cut the next piece of wallpaper, making sure the pattern aligns with the pattern on the first piece of wallpaper. Then, after you've hung the first piece on the wall, the third piece can be cut, aligning the pattern again with the second piece, etc. This is the best way to prevent any major mistakes in cutting the paper!
Paste the first piece by (on one side) overlapping the edges of the table with the wallpaper. This will prevent paste from getting on your table on this end. Starting at the centre of the paper, work the paste to the overhanging end of the paper. Then move the paper up and hang it slightly over the edge at the other side of the table. Now paste this end of the paper. Carefully fold the pasted end of the paper before moving along and lining up the paper. This will help soak the paste into the paper and prevent any paste from sticking to your carpet! After pasting the other end, fold the end neatly to the already folded part, aligning the edges. Let it soak for a while in order to make the paper easier to work with and it will also ensure a better adhesion to the wall. While this is soaking, you can paste the second piece of wallpaper. Make sure however, that you keep an eye on the soaking times.
To hang your wallpaper, make sure you only unfold the end of your wallpaper that will reach the ceiling. Start hanging it along the plumbline. Make sure you do leave an overhang, so that you can trim along the ceiling later. While you're hanging the paper, smooth it by using your dry hanging brush. Work towards the edges of the paper. Now you can unfold the bottom end of the paper and press it slightly against the wall, pushing any air bubbles out to the sides. You can now trim the overhang with a trimming knife. The following pieces can now be lined up to match the pattern. It is best if the paper overruns slightly to the other wall. As the walls hardly ever will join at a straight angle, this will prevent any gaps. You will then have to double-check the next wall by drawing another plumbline. Now continue papering the wall.
A few obstacles you'll always come across
• Doors. You'll be very lucky if your wallpaper matches up at your doorframes! Most of the time you will have to cut around it and nice and neat too. Here's how to do it: If you come up to the door, just start hang the wallpaper like you would normally. Gently feel the position of the frame through the paper and mark where the frame has to be cut out from the paper. Start cutting in towards the frame from the paper that covers the doors and which will be discarded. That way you have the least chance of getting it wrong. Get rid of most of the discard paper (so you can work better) and trim the wallpaper neatly around the frame.
• Sockets and switches. Always turn the electricity off if you want to work behind the socket or switch. Identify the shape of the socket/switch behind the paper, and cut, starting in the middle, towards the edge of the paper that needs to be removed. Loosen the socket or switch, cut away the excess paper and neatly fold the rest behind the socket/switch.
• Light fittings and other circular objects. Again lightly feel the shape of the object through the overhanging paper. Cut from the centre of the circle out to the edge of the shape (so that it will look like a pie-shape) and fold the paper away. Trim away the excess paper.
Top tips for a better finish
• Nothing is more annoying than having to fish your brush out of the bucket and getting paste all over your hands. There are now brushes available that you can hook on the rim of the bucket, leaving you with clean hands.
• Make sure you check your paste when you hang vinyl wallpaper, as vinyl has difficulty sticking to itself.
• To remove air bubbles, it is very important to work quick and neat. Make a small incision in the air bubble when the paper is still wet, apply some paste behind it, and carefully smooth the paper over.
• Always be careful when you use the seam roller. Whereas it might help you smoothing the edges of your wallpaper, it also might smooth your pattern if you're not careful! It can also leave a sheen on certain paper, so practice on a test bit first, to establish the amount of pressure it allows you to use.
• Don't get paste on your table! It can be difficult sometimes to get wallpaper paste off the front of your wallpaper, so be careful.
• In order to reduce the amount of off-cuts, it is sometimes better to use two rolls at the same time to align the pattern of your wallpaper.
• It is not advisable to use a roller to apply paste to your wallpaper, unless the paper is really thick. If it's too thin, your paper will stick and roll around your roller.
