The interior decorator must have a natural artistic flair to perform this type of work. This is mandatory and the basis of being ready for an education in this profession. She will be required to use color and placement to imbue the home with ambiance. Her natural talents will be developed during her education.

Someone can be licensed in many states. First she must obtain a formal education. A four year program is available in a number of accredited colleges. This will let clients know she is qualified to work for them in a professional capacity.

Interior designers perform the same functions as decorators. These two titles are often used interchangeably. However, either may posses the talents required to create an ambiance in the home or make a commercial building a pleasant place in which to shop.

A residential refurbishing of a private homes must first and foremost consider the wishes of an owner regardless of choices the professional considers beautiful. The project begins with a consultation with the owner and ends when that owner is satisfied with the results. The tasks to complete in between those times are varied and may be different from project to project.

Paint colors, wallpaper, carpeting and draperies are all included in the overall job. They must be coordinated in a way that is attractive. In a new construction furniture, appliances and accessories will be selected as well. For an existing house, she may search for a purchase antiques and other items.

A budget should be established when starting out to make purchases. In addition to the materials such as paint, carpets and wallpaper, the people who paint, lay carpet and paper the walls must be paid for their services. Some clients want the entire house painted in complementary colors. Others want one or two rooms to stand out with different color paint and a different style of furniture. Each interior decorator will create a setting that conforms to those preferences.
