Sprint, HTC announce the EVO 4G LTE with 4.7-inch 720p display, HD Voice

Sprint EVO 4G LTE
Sprint and HTC have just announced the EVO 4G LTE, the latest in Sprint's line of EVO Android smartphones. Like the HTC One X for AT&T that it shares much with, the EVO 4G LTE has a 4.7-inch, 720p HD display and 4G LTE support.

The EVO 4G LTE pretty much looks like a One X that has been "Sprint-ified," with its black finish and red accents. However, unlike the One X, which features a polycarbonate unibody, the EVO 4G LTE's rear is broken up by the flip-out kickstand. Unfortunately, the two piece metal and plastic body still does not provide access to the phone's internal battery, though it does offer access to a microSD card slot.
The battery itself is a large 2000mAh unit, but Sprint has not provided estimated talk or standby times for it.
Fortunately, the beautiful, 4.7-inch 1280 x 720 pixel Super LCD display that we loved so much on the One X is present, and the EVO 4G LTE also retains the 8 megapixel rear camera and 1.3 megapixel front camera. The camera features a bright, f/2.0 aperture lens and backlit illuminated sensor for superior low light capabilities. The EVO 4G LTE also, unsurprisingly, has Beats Audio integration, a first for a Sprint device.
Powering the EVO 4G LTE is Qualcomm's dual-core Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.5GHz. It is paired with 1GB of RAM and the EVO 4G LTE's 16GB of internal storage.

The EVO 4G LTE is the first smartphone in Sprint's lineup to support the carrier's new HD Voice service that promises to offer fuller, richer sounding voice calls with diminished background noise.
As with the other One series smartphones from HTC, the EVO 4G LTE runs Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with HTC's new Sense 4.0 interface. Sense 4.0 offers an advanced camera interface that allows users to take full resolution pictures while recording full 1080p video. The HTC EVO 4G LTE will be available sometime in the second quarter for $199.99 with a new two-year contract. Anxious customers will be able to place a pre-order starting May 7.

Sony Xperia sola smartphone

Sony Xperia sola
Sony has taken the wraps off of the sola, the latest smartphone in its Xperia line. From the outside, the Xperia sola appears to be your run-of-the-mill slab-style Android smartphone, but Sony was able to pack some new technology into the touchscreen that is designed to make it easier to navigate the web.
This new technology is called "floating touch," and it allows a user to hover their finger over the display to move what is akin to an invisible mouse cursor and then merely tap the screen once the desired link is highlighted. The sola is the first smartphone to use this new tech, but Sony says that it plans to bring it to other models in the future. The screen itself is a 3.7-inch, Reality Display powered by Sony's Mobile Bravia Engine with 854 x 480 pixels of resolution.

The sola is powered by a dual-core, 1GHz processor and it includes support for NFC, DLNA, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth. There is a 5 megapixel rear camera with 720p HD video recording,
though the sola appears to lack a front-facing camera. The phone measures 116mm x 59mm x 9.9mm (4.56in x 2.32in x 0.39in) and weighs 107g (3.77oz). Sony says that it will get about 5 hours of talk time or just under 20 days of standby with its included 1,320mAh battery.

The Xperia sola will run Android 2.3 Gingerbread with Sony's custom user interface when it launches. Sony says that an upgrade to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is in the works for a summer 2012 release.
Sony plans to offer the Xperia sola in black, red, and white color options, and will launch it globally in Q2 of this year. Pricing information has yet to be announced. For a closer look, check out the videos below that show of the Xperia sola's new floating touch technology.

Upcoming Nokia Moible Phone 2012

The Nokia 808 PureView is a Symbian Belle powered smartphone

Upcoming Nokia Moible Phone 2012
First unveiled on 27 February 2012 at the Mobile World Congress. It is the first smartphone to feature 41 megapixel oversampling 1/1.2" sensor and a high resolution f/2.4 Zeiss all-aspherical 1-group lens. See examples.[1]

The 808 won the award for "Best New Mobile Handset, Device or Tablet" at Mobile World Congress 2012[2], and the award for Best Imaging Innovation for 2012 from the Technical Image Press Association[3].

The 808 will be first released in select countries in May 2012.[4] [5]

Pureview Pro camera

PureView Pro is an imaging technology used in the Nokia 808 PureView device. It is the combination of a 1/1.2" large,[6] very high resolution 41Mpix with high performance Carl Zeiss optics. The large sensor enables pixel oversampling, which means the combination of many pixels into one better pixel. PureView imaging technology delivers high image quality, lossless zoom, and improved low light performance (see below). It dispenses with the usual scaling/interpolation model of digital zoom used in virtually all smartphones, as well as optical zoom used in most digital cameras, where a series of lens elements moves back and forth to vary the magnification and field of view. Instead, it will give around 3x lossless zoom for stills, and 4x zoom in full HD 1080p, for 720p HD video, 6x lossless zoom and for nHD (640x360) video, 12x zoom.

PureView Pro specifications

Sensor: 41 megapixel CMOS image sensor, 1/1.2" image sensor format with 7728 x 5368 pixels, pixel size: 1.4 microns.
Lens: Carl Zeiss optics with F-number: f/2.4. Focal length: 8.02mm: 35mm equivalent focal length: 26mm @ 16:9 and 28mm @ 4:3. Construction: 5 elements in 1 group. All lens surfaces are aspherical, partly extreme aspheric,[7] one high refractive index, low-dispersion glass mould lens.
Focus range: 15 cm – Infinity (throughout the zoom range).
Shutter: Mechanical shutter with short shutter lag[8] and ND8 (3 f-stops) neutral density filter
Processing: On-chip image processor performing image scaling with oversampling, giving lossless (digital) zoom: 3x for stills, 4x for full HD 1080p video with on-chip video processor performing image resolution processing with over 1 billion pixels per second[8] enabling the use of all pixels for improved image noise and dynamic range

Image sensor

PureView Pro sensor has an active area of 7728 x 5368 pixels, totalling over 41Mpix. Depending on the aspect ratio chosen by the user, it will use 7728 x 4354 pixels for 16:9 images/videos, or 7152 x 5368 pixels for 4:3 images/videos. What happens next depends on the settings and whether or not zoom is used. But to give an idea, the default still image setting is 5Mpix at 16:9, and for video, 1080p at 30fps. Using these settings, the zoom is around 3x for stills and 4x for video. Conventional digital zoom tends to scale up images from a relatively low resolution, resulting in poor image quality.

The image sensor is capable not only of delivering parts of its pixels, but of down- or oversampling its resolution by having its own on-chip image processor, highly reducing external processing needs and data rates as well as image noise (see noise shaping) when lower resolutions (or HD video) are needed. Additionally this provides very high image resolution. Images up to 38 megapixels can be taken at full resolution at 4:3 aspect ratio and 34 megapixels at 16:9 ratio. The PureView is a pixel oversampling technology used by Nokia that converts an image taken at full resolution into 3, 5 or 8 megapixels to reduce noise in the image.[9][10]

Lens

The optic is a 1-group lens, which is based on a shiftable fixed-focus lens: similar to the highly regarded prime lenses in most Zeiss Planar or Tessar optics, focus is achieved by varying the distance to the image sensor (unit focusing lens). This construction has the advantage that no movable focus group is needed. Considerable movable (focus-range) lens groups need a minimum of one additional adaptive lens element in both the moved group and the stationary group, increasing the number of elements by at least two. This increases unwanted reflections as well as overall tolerances and therefore decreases sharpness.

A 1-group lens has a fixed aperture, further increasing the freedom of lens element arrangement and allowing the designer to optimize the lens to only one f-stop. The lens consists of only 1 group of elements, which gives a highly stable, precise mechanical alignment. The lenses are partly made of plastic, which provides sufficient stability at this size and as a 1-group lens and has the significant advantage of making it possible to use extreme aspheric shaped lens elements.[7]

5 all-aspherical lens elements are used, making it possible to increase border-sharpness and lower distortion and astigmatism. The high refractive index, low-dispersion glass additionally helps reduce chromatic aberrations. A neutral density filter with approximately ND8 (3 f-stops) is employed for shooting in high light levels where normally a smaller aperture would be set. Although the lens is named a Vario-Tessar, it has almost nothing in common with the 4 element in 3 group, non-aspherical original Tessar.

Due to the comparatively large image sensor format of 1/1.2" and the comparatively fast lens with f/2.4, the camera has a quite shallow depth of field of equivalent to approximately f/7.8 at 26mm[11] on full-frame 35mm full-frame.

Zoom

Zoom is digital but retains a high resolution due to the 41Mp sensor. The limit of the zoom is reached when the selected output resolution becomes the same as the input resolution. That means once the area of the sensor reaches 3072 x 1728, the zoom limit is reached. So the zoom is always provides the true image resolution the user wants. The level of pixel oversampling is highest when zoom is not used. It gradually decreases until the maximum zoom is hit, where there is no oversampling. At this stage, PureView Pro optics and pixels start behaving in a more conventional way. But because only the centre of the optics is used, the best optical performance is achieved – including low distortion, no vignetting and highest levels of resolved detail. This also means that at full digital zoom, the noise reduction achieved by oversampling (pixel binning) is lost as no oversampling happens at full zoom.

Autofocus

PureView Pro features
continuous auto focus in all shooting modes, close-up (Macro) focus, Face detection, Touch focus with easy manually selected focus point and Hyperfocal distance focus for defined depth of field, for extreme focus speed or when no reliable focus is possible due to darkness.

Video

The on-chip oversampling image processor of PureView Pro enables oversampling of all 38Mega-pixels even at the high video data rates of 1080p with 30 fps. Full HD 1080p gives 4x zoom; 720p HD video, 6x lossless zoom; and for nHD (640x360) video, 12x zoom. In addition, encoding is up to 25Mbps in 1080p H.264/MPEG-4 HD video format. The PureView Pro sensor integrates a special video processor that handles pixel scaling before sending the required number to the main image processor.

Audio

The 808 PureView employs Dolby Headphone software to transform stereo content to surround via 3.5mm A/V jack. It also includes Dolby Digital Plus software to provide 5.1 surround sound via HDMI or DLNA. The dual softwares from Dolby are embedded into the Nokia Belle feature pack 1 OS.
The 808 PureView is the first device to include the Nokia Rich Recording technology and has a frequency range between 25 Hz to around 19 KHz. The 808 PureView can capture sounds at the loudness level of 145 decibels without distortion. The two microphones, located at the top and the bottom enable stereo recording. The audio encoding is done in AAC high profile, 256 kbps, 48000 Hz.

Nokia E7 business Symbian^3 smartphone

Summary

The Nokia E7 is a new smartphone from Nokia with a 4-inch touchscreen display and slide out QWERTY keyboard. However, whilst the hardware certainly looks and feels the part, the Symbian^3 OS feels a little sluggish and outdated when compared to its rivals.
The E7 comes packed with goodies, though, including GPS, Wi-Fi, and free navigation courtesy of Ovi Maps, but we found its 8 megapixel camera to be a let down. As a device aimed more at business users, the E7 comes pre-installed with a Premium version of Quickoffice,
and F-Secure anti-theft software, plus the E7 can output presentations and videos via its HDMI port.
To spice things up a bit, the E7 is available in a range of different colors, and comes with 16GB of built-in storage for all your media content. Overall, it sounds like a great package, but we found it to be quite tricky and tedious at times, often being slow to respond or just hanging for no reason, which it often did within the web browser. Read on for our full analysis.

Nokia 500 is the first 1GHz smartphone to come out of Espoo

Despite all of its talk of Windows Phone, Nokia is still cranking out Symbian-powered smartphones, and the 500 is the latest handset to come out of the Finnish company's labs. Sporting a familiar slab design, the 500 is the first Nokia smartphone equipped with a 1GHz processor.
The 500 looks similar to the previously announced N9, though it has a smaller 3.2-inch capacitive touchscreen with a 640 x 360 pixel resolution. Nokia is positioning the 500
as a lower-cost alternative to the N9, and has equipped it with interchangeable back covers for easy personalization. The back houses a 5 megapixel camera with video capture.
Accompanying the 500's 1GHz processor is 2GB of internal storage and support for microSD cards up to 32GB in size. The 500 runs the latest Symbian OS, Anna, and includes Nokia Maps, social network integration, internet radio services, and an FM radio. The 500 measures 111.3mm x 53.8mm x 14.1mm (4.4in x 2.1in x 0.6in), and weighs 93g (3.28oz), the lightest of any Symbian^3 smartphone to date.
Nokia will be releasing a black version of the 500 in Q3 of this year, with a white version to follow in Q4. Both versions come with three different colored back plates in the box. Nokia expects the 500 to retail for just 150 EUR (US$216) before any taxes or subsidies when it hits the market. Take a look at the two videos below to see the 500 in action.

Nokia launches the 700 with Symbian Belle, says its the smallest smartphone in the world

To go along with the announcement of the new Symbian Belle operating system, Nokia has launched some new smartphones that make use of it. The Nokia 700 is said to be the smallest slate-style smartphone on the market, yet it still has some of the higher-end specs that one would expect to see on a larger smartphone.
The diminutive 700 measures only 110mm x 50.7mm x 9.7mm (4.3in x 2in x 0.38in) and weighs a scant 96g (3.39oz). It is powered by a 1GHz processor and has GPS, Bluetooth, and Wi-Fi support, plus an FM radio. It has a 5 megapixel "full focus" camera with LED flash and 720p (1280 x 720 pixel)
HD video capture, and comes equipped with 2GB of internal memory to store your images. You can expand the memory with microSD cards up to 32GB in capacity. The Nokia 700 sports a pentaband cellular radio, and its 1080mAh battery is claimed to offer 7 hours of talk time or over 19 days of standby time.
The 3.2-inch display on the 700 is a ClearBlack AMOLED unit, with nHD (360 x 640 pixel) resolution and Corning Gorilla Glass. The 700 also features deep NFC capabilities, thanks to the Symbian Belle operating system. Nokia claims that the 700 is the greenest smartphone that it has produced to date, as it is free of PVC, RFR, and BFR, and is 100 percent recyclable.
The Nokia 700 will come in cool grey, silver/white, coral red, peacock blue, and purple color options, and will arrive in the third quarter. It is expected to retail for 270 EUR (US$390).

Nokia remembers the low-end with the 100, the cheapest phone it has ever made

Following yesterday's announcement of the new Symbian Belle smartphone operating system and three new phones to go along with it, Nokia is changing gears today to introduce the 100, a basic, no-frills phone that is aimed towards emerging markets. In fact, the 100 is the cheapest phone that Nokia has ever produced.
The 100 runs Nokia's Series 30 feature phone operating system, and is designed to do pretty much one thing: make and receive phone calls. Of course, you can send and receive text messages,
but forget about snapping pics or sending MMS messages with pictures, as the 100 lacks a camera. The 100 does include a cool, integrated flashlight in the top of the phone, and it has an FM radio as well. Nokia says they designed the simple, icon-based user interface to be usable even for those who have yet to learn to read.
The Nokia 100 measures 110mm x 45.5mm x 14.9 mm (4.33in x 1.79in x 0.58in) and weighs 70g (2.47oz). It has a 1.8-inch color display with 128 x 160 pixel resolution. Large keys make it easy to dial and navigate the menus, and you can personalize the OS with 20 different built-in themes. Nokia claims that the 800mAh battery in the 100 will power it through 7.2 hours of talk time or up to 35 days of standby. Unfortunately, the 100 still uses Nokia's proprietary wall charger with a 2mm barrel instead of the more common micro-USB standard.
Nokia will be launching the 100 in selected markets this quarter. It will retail for about 20 EUR (US$29), and will come in five different colors. Take a look at the video below to see more of the Nokia 100.

Nokia launches Oro smartphone with gold and leather - and a lofty pricetag

Nokia has just introduced a new smartphone called the Oro, based on the existing C7, but with an added touch of luxury.
Nokia has a tradition of producing expensive, high-end luxury phones with its Vertu brand, but the Oro is branded Nokia through and through. It features 18-carat gold plating, hand-wrapped leather, and a sapphire crystal on the home key. The sapphire crystal is said to offer beauty and greater durability when compared with traditional glass.

Technology-wise, the Oro has the same guts as the C7, so you will find a pentaband 3G radio, a 3.5-inch AMOLED display, and an 8 megapixel camera with flash, but no autofocus. All the gold and leather in the world will not make that lens autofocus, unfortunately. Unlike the C7, the Oro will ship with the latest version of Symbian, dubbed Anna.
The Oro will be available in limited quantities in Europe, Eastern Europe, China, and the Middle East in the third quarter of this year. It will cost upwards of 800 EUR (US$1125), but if you have to ask the cost...you know the rest. And in case you were wondering, Oro means gold in Italian. Take a look at the video below where Alessandro Lamanna, Vice President of Marketing at Nokia pontificates about the new Oro.

Nokia 101 offers dual-SIM capabilities on the cheap

In addition to launching the low-end Nokia 100, Nokia has also introduced the Nokia 101 today, which is very similar to the 100, save for its dual-SIM capabilities. Additionally, the 101 sports an MP3 music player for listening to tunes on the go.
Nokia is positioning the 100 and the 101 for emerging markets, like those in large parts of Africa and Asia where it is not common for every person to have a mobile phone.
The 101 offers very similar features to the 100, including the built-in flashlight, but it adds the capability to have more than one SIM card in the phone at once, as well as an MP3 player. The 101 is able to remember the address books of five different users, and stores the details of up to five SIM cards at a time. Users can plug in louder speakers to the 3.5mm headphone jack, and support for microSD cards up to 16GB in capacity allows them to store thousands of songs.
Hardware-wise, the 101 is also very similar to the 100. It measures 110mm x 45.5mm x 14.9mm (4.33in x 1.79in x 0.59in) and weighs 71g (2.5oz). It has the same 1.8-inch, 128 x 160 pixel color display and large keys for easy navigation. A 800mAh battery provides up to 6.7 hours of talk time or 25 days of standby. Nokia says that users can get 26 hours of music playback between charges when the volume is at 50 percent of its maximum volume.
Nokia will be launching the 101 in select emerging markets this quarter. It will retail for about 25 EUR (US$36), and will come in black or coral red color options. Check out the video below for a closer look at the Nokia 101.

How To Fix Spite Version 2.2 Issues

We had recently published a post on the new updated version of Spite. We had mixed reviews at first. At first, everyone loved it. No issues at all. Then, like wildfire, we got emails and comments all over the place giving examples of issues they had with Spite after they updated. Well after a lot of research and help from other people, we now can help you fix some, if not all, of these issues. Stay tuned for more after the break.

Spite is the one and only Siri port that works on iOS 5.1, iOS 5.0.1, and iOS 5.0.
Spite requires a tethered jailbreak no matter what firmware and jailbreak you are on, but it is worth it. Spite uses a different method than Spire for Siri. Therefore, it makes Siri on older iDevices noticeably faster than any other Siri port

However, Spite also breaks video recording when doing so in the above mentioned method. So, the developer has released the Spite Fix Pack which includes a number of stability bug fixes along with fixing the untether, camera, and other app bugs. This sounds great, the only catch is, it makes your device almost as slow as Spire. That is the reason as to why the developer made it optional. Some are all about speed. Whereas others are more about functionality.

After going through and reading through all the comments on some of our older posts, we have come to the conclusion that the new update is causing more issues than fixing them. It turns out this is actually an installation error on the user end. That’s why we created this post. To help all that have been having trouble with Spite causing issues.

Requirements:
Jailbroken iOS 5 Device
repo.technetec.com/beta Source in Cydia
Note: It is highly recommended for you to restore your device then rejailbreak! This is a lot safer!
Instructions:
1.) Open up Cydia.app.
2.) Navigate to the sources tab and add the repo mentioned above in sources.
3.) Click on the source you just added and click on Spite. After you have done this click Install. This is on the upper right part of the app.
4.) Next reboot tethered (when on iOS 5.1).
5.) Open up Cydia.app again.
6.) Go to the TechNetec Repo in Cydia and click on Spite Fix pack, install, then confirm.
7.) Reboot tethered with redsn0w.

*UPDATE 1!* Research has been made. The only difference between Spite 2.1 and Spite 2.2 is that 2.2 includes the uninstaller. Nothing else has changed. Do not wait for 2.1 to be back on the repo as this will not happen. Also, make sure to reboot after installing Spite, then reboot after installing the fix pack. Queuing the two together causes errors.

*UPDATE 2!* The Developer of Spite @S26Tech is working on fixing any bugs and issues with Spite and the Spite Fix Pack. Here are the posts they made on Twitter:

Analyzation of this post: Spite 2.3 will be released soon starting with new Siri files to fix and issues will the old version. It also confirms my last update saying that Spite 2.1 and Spite 2.2 are the exact same thing, except that 2.2 can uninstall without a restore. The last post said that the Spite Fix Pack will be soon be updated later today. The issues is that its making 3 cache backups instead of one, therefore it can’t be uninstalled and it causes glitches. Stay tuned for the updated Spite.

Done! Your Siri should work if you have a good proxy! Basically, installing everything this way installs everything at once and reduces any errors. The only issue you might have is a white settings icon. A fix to this will be coming soon, however if you can’t wait you can ssh into your device and copy Settings.png to the Settings.app folder. Remember, this is a beta. Even though it is public, it is beta. Issues will be here until fixed. If you are not prepared for the consequences, don’t do it.

As to any issues with Siri saying she can’t connect, this is the server. Apple has different servers depending on which version of iOS you are on. Therefore, a server that might have worked on iOS 5.0.1 might not work on 5.1, because the server hasn’t been updated. If you want a good working server that doesn’t do this, buy a slot from S26Tech Shop. They work great, work on iOS 5.1, and will work with the iPad 3 when it gets jailbroken.

How to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 with RedSn0w

iOS 5.1.1 was just released, and with it come a few bug fixes. If you’re worried about maintaining your untethered jailbreak, then it’s important not to update.
If, on the other hand, you have a device that’s currently jailbreakable on iOS 5.1, you can use the latest version of RedSn0w to jailbreak iOS 5.1.1 with a few easy steps.
Check inside for the full tutorial…
You will need your 5.1 firmware for the device that you want to jailbreak, as RedSn0w currently doesn’t recognize iOS 5.1.1.
Step 1: Download the latest version of RedSn0w 0.9.10b8b from my page on right panel.
Step 2: Connect your device to your computer, place your device into DFU mode, and run RedSn0w.
Step 3: Go to Extras > Select IPSW > and point to your iOS 5.1 firmware for this device.
Step 4: Once RedSn0w successfully identifies the 5.1 firmware, head back to the main page of RedSn0w and click Jailbreak.
Step 5: Once it identifies the build, click Next where it asks you to install Cydia.
Step 6: Cydia will be installed, and your device will reboot. Upon reboot, place the device back into DFU mode.
Step 7: Perform a tethered boot via RedSn0w by going back to the Extras page and clicking Just Boot.
Step 8: Your device will reboot, and you will have a usable Cydia icon on your Home screen.
Note: This is a tethered jailbreak. Once RedSn0w is updated for iOS 5.1.1 you will no longer have to follow step 3.

T-Mobile Prism Android smartphone

T-Mobile has taken the wraps off of the Prism, a new budget-friendly smartphone that runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread.
The Prism sports a 3.5-inch, HVGA (320 x 480 pixel) display and is powered by a 600MHz Qualcomm processor. It also packs a 3.2 megapixel camera with video capabilities,
and supports microSD cards up to 32GB in capacity. The Prism has a 1400mAh battery that T-Mobile claims is good for up to 6.5 hours of talk time or almost 17 days of standby.
Since the Prism is a budget device, it does not feature support for T-Mobile's speedy "4G" HSPA+ network, but instead makes do with more pedestrian 3G speeds. T-Mobile will offer the Prism in both slate and crimson red color options for $19.99 with a new two-year contract. It can also be purchased for $149.99 without a contract. Best Buy will be the first retailer with the phone, on May 6, while Walmart will pick it up on May 9. T-Mobile's online store and retail locations will offer the Prism starting on May 23.

Lenovo K800, first Intel Atom Medfield smartphone

Well it looks like we have a surprise guest at Showstoppers tonight. Lenovo just dropped by with its just-announced K800 -- the first Intel-powered smartphone to see the light of day. The beastly 4.5-inch 720p device sample that the company had on-hand is running a highly modified version of Android,
and while the interface may not look familiar, the overall app experience shouldn't be much different from what you're used to. The official spec list includes a 1.6GHz Intel Medfield processor, Android 2.3, a TFT display and an 8 megapixel camera with a maximum sensitivity of ISO 3200. For now, the K800 is compatible with WCDMA HSPA+ and was running on AT&T's 3G network -- there's no word of LTE on this version, which seems logical considering that the 4G network is a bit hard to come by in Lenovo's native China, where the device is expected to launch first. Naturally, there's also 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, Bluetooth 3.0 and GPS connectivity. We'll be bringing you more on what's undoubtedly the hottest gadget of the evening in the days to come, but jump past the break for an early look at the world's first Medfield smartphone.

Pantech introduces the 4.8-inch Vega Racer 2

Not wanting to be outdone by a certain super phone that will be unveiled today, Pantech has something big up its Android smartphone sleeve as well. The Korean phone maker is preparing to unleash its flagship Vega Racer 2 phone next week to the local market.

The Pantech Vega Racer 2 is an LTE phone that boasts a 4.8-inch screen with 1280 x 720 resolution, the highly sought-after Snapdragon S4 processor, 2,020mAh battery, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Packing a relatively big battery in a 9.35mm thin shell, Pantech seems to have got the memo that what the Android masses want is a powerful and compact smartphone with impressive battery performance. Pantech says the large capacity battery offers 245 hours of standby time and 9.5 hours of continuous talk time.
The original Pantech Vega Racer sold 1.7 million units in South Korea, so obviously Pantech doesn’t want to take chances by not including the best of everything in the sequel, as well as adding some new features. Pantech Vega Racer 2 comes with what the phone maker claimed to be the first Korean speech recognition capabilities, which allow you to use your voice to dial, compose message, browse the web, and even take pictures. Some preloaded action words for the latter include “one, two, three”, “kimchi” and “cheese”.
Pantech will also keep some new features of Ice Cream Sandwich intact, such as the Face Unlock and Android beam functions. While the ceramic-coated phone will come in two colors, the white version of Pantech Vega Racer 2 will be released first, with the black version to follow after. There’s no information yet whether we’ll see the Pantech Vega Racer 2 making it to the international scene.
