Pantech introduces the 4.8-inch Vega Racer 2

Not wanting to be outdone by a certain super phone that will be unveiled today, Pantech has something big up its Android smartphone sleeve as well. The Korean phone maker is preparing to unleash its flagship Vega Racer 2 phone next week to the local market.

The Pantech Vega Racer 2 is an LTE phone that boasts a 4.8-inch screen with 1280 x 720 resolution, the highly sought-after Snapdragon S4 processor, 2,020mAh battery, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Packing a relatively big battery in a 9.35mm thin shell, Pantech seems to have got the memo that what the Android masses want is a powerful and compact smartphone with impressive battery performance. Pantech says the large capacity battery offers 245 hours of standby time and 9.5 hours of continuous talk time.
The original Pantech Vega Racer sold 1.7 million units in South Korea, so obviously Pantech doesn’t want to take chances by not including the best of everything in the sequel, as well as adding some new features. Pantech Vega Racer 2 comes with what the phone maker claimed to be the first Korean speech recognition capabilities, which allow you to use your voice to dial, compose message, browse the web, and even take pictures. Some preloaded action words for the latter include “one, two, three”, “kimchi” and “cheese”.
Pantech will also keep some new features of Ice Cream Sandwich intact, such as the Face Unlock and Android beam functions. While the ceramic-coated phone will come in two colors, the white version of Pantech Vega Racer 2 will be released first, with the black version to follow after. There’s no information yet whether we’ll see the Pantech Vega Racer 2 making it to the international scene.
